Dusseldorf Alt Yeast - WLP 036
WLP036 was sourced from a brewery in the Dusseldorf region of Germany, which is notorious for its slightly malty and sweet Altbiers, compared to the cleaner and more neutral Kolsch Ales or Northern German Ales. This beer style makes a perfect session beer for the colder season, and you will certainly be surprised how bright some of the malt flavours can become with WLP036.
On the downside, WLP036 Dusseldorf Alt Yeast tends to mute the hop character of the beer – a fact that doesn’t make this strain particularly useful for making hop-forward Pale Ales and IPAs.
|Description:||A splendid Altbier strain hailing from Germany, WLP036 Dusseldorf Alt Yeast possesses a character of its own. It has a bit lower attenuation compared to other German Ale strains, which results in slightly sweeter beers, especially if compared to another popular Alt yeast, WLP029. Nevertheless, it produces very clean, lager-like beers with a subdued hop flavour and aroma, while accentuating the malt aspect of the recipe. This makes WLP029 an excellent strain for making winter Altbiers, as well as a broad range of malt-forward beer styles such as Scotch Ale, English Old Ale, Porter, Oatmeal Stout, and even Barleywine, though the general alcohol tolerance of this strain is rather moderate.|
