British Ale Yeast - WLP 005
While being quite similar to the WLP002 strain in general terms, WLP005 British Ale Yeast has a character of its own, which can be used in a variety of styles.
It is characterized by a higher attenuation and slightly drier finish, while still retaining the overall malt-forward character and high flocculation that results in a very clear beer and a compact yeast sediment.
WLP005 can certainly be used as a substitute for WLP002 as it will produce similar results in general, however its best application are slightly drier malt-forward beers with higher alcohol content, such as Robust Porter, Oatmeal Stout, Brown Ale, and English IPA among others.
Description: | WLP005 British Ale Yeast produces a very mild and pleasant mix of ethers, creating a pleasant interplay with residual sugars after the fermentation is carried out. This trait makes the strain a great choice for making malt-forward beers or adding body and peculiar character to hop-forward styles. With WLP005 you can easily make almost any British-style ale or experiment with more diverse flavours in other types of beer that will benefit from the slightly fruity and somewhat sweet body with a mild and pleasant aftertaste. |
