This variety is grown in the United States and was released in 2007. Its aroma profile is grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passionfruit and lychee.

Description: With a very intricate parentage that includes Hallertau Mittlefruh, East Kent Golding and Brewer’s Gold, it’s not all that surprising to find Citra as one of the most commonly used hops in today’s craft beer industry.

Designed to lend the beer intense citrus flavours and aromas, and Citra certainly delivers. When added late in the boil or during dry-hopping, Citra bestows a crazy mix of tangerine, orange, grapefruit and melon to the beer, which is certainly a welcome trait in modern hop-forward beers. It also has a fairly high alpha acid content with low co-humulone levels, which results in a mild and balanced bittering profile.

Still, when brewing an IPA or Pale Ale, Citra is one of those hops that will make things much better when added late in the boil.
