Charlie's Fist Bump Lager Yeast - WLP 1983
WLP1983 Charlie's Fist Bump Lager Yeast (formerly WLP862 Cry Havoc) is a homebrewer’s dream, as it is used in virtually any beer style at both ale and lager temperatures, as well as for cellaring the beer.
From a technical viewpoint, this covers the middle part of the spectrum, giving enough leeway for making very light beers to fermenting medium-high density worts with ease. WLP1983 can be used in IPAs, Pale Ales, Porters, Bocks, Pilsners, Dunkels, and even Weizens with equally good results, so you will definitely find a good use for this strain no matter what type of beer is in the plan for the brewday.
This is the strain that was used by Papazian in all of the beers described in his famous book The Complete Joy of Homebrewing.
|Description||Originally developed by Charlie Papazian, the world-famous homebrewing author and past president of the Brewers Association, WLP862 Cry Havoc Yeast (now rebranded as Charlie's Fist Bump) is a very peculiar strain that can be used for making a very broad range of beer styles.
One of its main features is that the strain can work at both lager and ale temperatures, delivering excellent results with no undesirable by-products.
With medium attenuation, low flocculation, and medium alcohol tolerance, this yeast can sometimes be a slow starter that requires more time for the beer to go through fermentation. But once it gets its job done, the results tend to be exciting regardless of the style you choose to brew.
