Oak Cubes - French Medium Toast - 3.5 oz (99 g)
Adding the complex character of French oak to your Imperial Stout or Belgian Quad won’t be much of a problem with the French Medium Toast Oak Cubes.
Instead of having to source a French oak barrel, which can rarely suit the typical homebrewing format volume, and will also cost you a lot, with the oak cubes you can experiment in just any batch size and beer style for a small fraction of a whole barrel’s price.
Just add them to secondary or maturation, hold them for an extended period of time, and your beer will obtain the wonderful French medium toast oak barrel character, described by such flavours as allspice and cinnamon.
|Description:||In contrast to the common oak chips, the French medium toast oak cubes require longer contact with the beer to impart the desired flavours, yet tend to exhibit a more balanced and organic character.
Typically, oak cubes have to be held for several weeks to several months, depending on beer style, in order to impart a pronounced oak barrel character. Still, this is significantly less than the case of an actual barrel, especially a commercial scale one.
And what's really great is that you can experiment with just any beer style, where hints of barrel-aging are deemed appropriate.
