Potassium Metabisulphite - 2 oz (56 g)
Potassium Metabisulphite is an active ingredient found in Campden tablets, popular with winemakers and beer brewers alike. And in this powder form, it’s much easier to control the addition rates of this versatile agent with a wide variety of applications in various branches of the food and beverage industry.
In winemaking, it is most commonly used as a preservative that clears up the wort from wild yeast and bacteria before cultured yeast is introduced for fermentation, thus ensuring proper flavour and aroma development. It also helps to prevent enzymatic browning in white wines, which also impacts the flavour and quality of the product.
Typically added in rates of 1/4 teaspoon per 5 gallons of wine as a preservative.
|Description:||Potassium Metabisulphite is also very popular among brewers as it has at least two very useful applications.
First of all, it eliminates chlorine and chloramine from brewing water, which ensures cleaner flavours and better yeast health during fermentation. For water treatment, use about 1/4 teaspoon per 10 gallons before mashing and sparging the grains.
It can also serve as a potent disinfectant for brewing equipment and bottles. Recommended amount of use is 2 oz per gallon of water to ensure proper potency.
