Calcium Chloride is an excellent brewing additive that helps to improve the quality of the water you’re brewing with. One of its main applications is adjusting the pH level of the water, and the mash respectively, which improves enzymatic activity, hop oil extraction, starch conversion, and many other chemical aspects of the brewing process.

In some cases adding just a little of Calcium Chloride to your brewing water can make all the difference between an OK beer and a great one.
Directions: Unlike another popular water treatment agent – Gypsum – Calcium Chloride doesn’t contribute to the sulphate ion content of the water, but rather increases the level of chlorine ions, which can be rather beneficial for certain beer styles. Both agents can be used effectively for adjusting the mineral profile of your brewing water, but it also requires a proper water analysis to be made beforehand.

Common usage rate is 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water, through may vary depending on your current and target brewing water profile.
