In many cases even the tightest fit can be a source of leaks, especially when it comes to dealing with gases under high pressure. No matter how tight or perfect your fitting and hose connection is, under certain circumstances there might be a leak, which will compromise the effectiveness of your entire dispensing system. In order to avoid such situations, you sure would want to have at least a couple of dedicated hose clamps in your brewing inventory.
Hose clamps are very simple in essence and come at a price so small that getting a dozen of them won’t put even a dent on your brewing budget. Yet, having a good clamp at the right moment can make a huge difference. Just connect the tubing with your fitting, put on the clamp and tighten it as hard as you can – this way you will always be sure that your system won’t have any leaks. This principle applies to both liquids and gasses, so it’s always a good idea to have at least several clamps within reach when assembling a keezer or kegerator.
